Nations Royalty – Building Indigenous Wealth
Date/Time: Monday, November 2 | 11:30am
Location: Carlton Room
Tahltan Nation Abstract
Speaker: Kody Penner
Indigenous Nations across Canada are increasingly seeking ways to transform resource development within their territories into meaningful, short and long-term wealth and economic independence. Nations Royalty was created to advance a new model of Indigenous participation in the resource sector, one that moves beyond traditional benefits and creates lasting ownership and financial participation.
We’ll explore how Indigenous-owned royalties can provide Nations with long-term exposure to resource projects while creating diversified and sustainable revenue streams for present and future generations. Drawing on real-world examples and the experience of Nations Royalty, the presentation will examine how existing royalty interests can be brought together within a publicly traded company, creating potential for liquidity, diversification, growth, and continued Indigenous ownership.
The presentation will also discuss the broader evolution of Indigenous economic participation in Canada’s natural resource sector, including the shift from consultation and impact benefit agreements toward equity ownership, royalties, partnerships, and Indigenous-led investment.
