The Gold Standard in Copper
Date/Time: Tuesday, November 3 | 10:15 am
Location: Hudbay Stage
Speakers: John O’Shaughnessy, Chantal Venturi and Dan MacIsaac
Abstract: As Hudbay Minerals prepares for its 100th anniversary in 2027, the company continues to build on its multi-metal strength across gold, copper, zinc, and silver in Manitoba.
John O’Shaughnessy, Vice President and Head of the Manitoba Business Unit, provides an operational update on Manitoba Operations, highlighting who Hudbay is today, where the company operates, and how strategic investment continues to support regional growth and performance.
Chantal Venturi, Director of Exploration, and Daniel MacIsaac, Senior Exploration Geologist, will then turn to the regional discovery pipeline, focusing on the Talbot volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposit; a polymetallic copper-zinc-gold system discovered in 2003 when Hudson Bay Exploration and Development drilled a horizontal loop electromagnetic (HLEM) anomaly.
Hosted in highly deformed Paleoproterozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic gneisses of the Kisseynew Domain within the Trans-Hudson Orogen, the deposit sits beneath 100 metres of flat-lying limestone and sandstone cover. Mineralization consists of stratabound semi-massive to massive sulphide lenses; predominantly chalcopyrite, sphalerite, pyrite, and pyrrhotite; with stringers and blebs in quartzo-feldspathic gneisses extending from 120 metres below surface past 1,500 metres deep. They will share findings from a 94-hole, 54,908-metre drill program that tested depth, strike, and infill targets to support an updated Mineral Reserve and Resource estimate.
Together, they will demonstrate how strong operations and active drilling continue to extend Hudbay’s legacy in Manitoba.
