Garrett Schmidt has been the Executive Director of Ya’thi Nènè Lands and Resources (YNLR) for 5 years where he has led its growth and development into a strong, community owned organization that protects Nuhenéné (Traditional Territory of the Athabasca Denesųłiné) and promotes the interests of Athabasca residents. Previous to working for YNLR, Garrett worked as a consulting Engineer designing infrastructure systems, a Business Development Advisor supporting indigenous community economic development and the Director of Operations for a northern Saskatchewan indigenous contracting company. Garrett holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Systems Engineering from the University of Regina and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Saskatchewan. He is a registered Professional Engineer. Garrett is married and has 4 young daughters including twins. He enjoys spending time with his family as well as hunting, cross-country skiing and playing basketball. He is passionate about creating opportunity for remote northern communities and bridging the socio-economic divide in Saskatchewan.
